SEASONAL GROUNDSKEEPER (Part-time)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY: To maintain the grounds of the Red River Zoo, which includes but not limited to: mowing trimming, watering, fertilizing, weed control, gardening, and maintain equipment.
REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager
WORK HOURS: 20-30 hours per week
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Mow zoo grounds. The public areas will be mowed with a walk-behind mower and all other areas will be mowed with a riding mower.
- Weed trim all public areas, around all buildings, fences, exhibits, holding areas and trees.
- Weed removal and general maintenance of flowerbeds, zoo grounds and animal exhibits.
- Plant, trim, mulch and water all trees and shrubs throughout the zoo and install all tree protection in the fall.
- Maintain water features throughout the zoo by monitoring water levels, removing debris from filtration and aeration systems.
- Provide basic maintenance on all grounds equipment including oil changes, tire pressure, sharpening blades, etc.
- Garbage removal from Pavilion, Quonset, outdoor public trash receptacles throughout the zoo and in the parking lot.
- Assist with general maintenance as needed by the facilities manager.
- Assist Red River Zoo staff with minor repairs and/or facility related problems.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- No previous zoo or animal experience is required. General knowledge of lawn care is preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to lift fifty pounds.
- Training will be provided on all equipment and will include operations, safety and maintenance.
