SEASONAL GROUNDSKEEPER (Part-time)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY: To maintain the grounds of the Red River Zoo, which includes but not limited to: mowing trimming, watering, fertilizing, weed control, gardening, and maintain equipment.

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

WORK HOURS: 20-30 hours per week

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Mow zoo grounds. The public areas will be mowed with a walk-behind mower and all other areas will be mowed with a riding mower.
  • Weed trim all public areas, around all buildings, fences, exhibits, holding areas and trees.
  • Weed removal and general maintenance of flowerbeds, zoo grounds and animal exhibits.
  • Plant, trim, mulch and water all trees and shrubs throughout the zoo and install all tree protection in the fall.
  • Maintain water features throughout the zoo by monitoring water levels, removing debris from filtration and aeration systems.
  • Provide basic maintenance on all grounds equipment including oil changes, tire pressure, sharpening blades, etc.
  • Garbage removal from Pavilion, Quonset, outdoor public trash receptacles throughout the zoo and in the parking lot.
  • Assist with general maintenance as needed by the facilities manager.
  • Assist Red River Zoo staff with minor repairs and/or facility related problems.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • No previous zoo or animal experience is required. General knowledge of lawn care is preferred, but not required.
  • Must be able to lift fifty pounds.
  • Training will be provided on all equipment and will include operations, safety and maintenance.
